UK Volleyball goes 2 - 0 this weekend

October 9, 2017

I attended my first UK Volleyball match on Sunday and it was amazing. There was a great atmosphere in Memorial Colisuem with the game on ESPNU, a decent size crowd, the cheerleaders, the pep band and an active student section. If anyone knows who the guy was that was reading off the cheesy pick up lines to the Auburn servers...buy him lunch this week. He was awesome, My Favorite was "Are you into Nintendo...because wii belong together"

The ladies improved to 5-0 in SEC play and 14-2 overall. The Wildcats dominated the first two sets wining 25-19 and 25-14. The third set found them down 15-20 and after a time out they battled back in the game and got it back to 20 all. The set went back and forth with the Tigers eventually winning the set 32-30. In the 4th set we battled to a 25-21 set win and match win 3-1.

The 10th ranked Wildcats lead the SEC in Hit Percentage (.325) and Senior Emily Franklin leads the Wildcats (#2 in SEC) with a .423 average. Along with hit percentage the Wildcats lead the SEC in assist average (13.53) and Kills average (14.9). Freshman Madison Lilly leads the team and the SEC in assists with a 11.9 assist per game average. Leah Edmond did her best to end the game in the third set and played a big roll in the ladies getting back into that set. For the match #13 had 25 kills, 8 digs and 3 blocks while scoring 26.5 points.

The Kentucky Volleyball team will face off on Wednesday night with the Aggies of A&M before traveling to #1 ranked Florida next Sunday.
