Saturday night I confirmed my thoughts on this football program. We are a good football program, we are not going to blow anyone out this year, we are a well coached and the team has been trained to fight, battle and win close ballgames. I would rather coach a team that I have to teach to extend a lead when given the opportunity versus trying to teach a team how to win. It was also great to a really strong crowd last night. Attendance was announced at a little over 57,000 and it was the second thing Coach Stoops mentioned in his post game press conference.
We need this bye week. Everyone is starting to question all our injuries...What is the cause of it? Are we not in shape? Are we not recovering properly and going into the game unprepared? How about we are a D1 Football Team that plays in the SEC and we have fought our way to a 5 - 1 record! This is a physical game and injuries are a part of it, remember there is a difference between being hurt and being injured. If you do not know what Im talking about go watch The Program.
Offensive leaders....Bowden 128 all purpose yards and the SEC Freshmen of the Week, Austin MacGinnis had 4 FG (21, 53, 53, 20), converted all 4 PAT attempts and was named Lou Groza Star of the Week, Benny Snell rushed for 117 and 2 TD, Steven Johnson was 22 - 36 for 298 yards passing and 1 TD, Garrett Johnson 111 yards receiving with 1 TD. Pretty good offensive stat line and we only turned the ball over 1 time. I don't care if we win by 1 or win by 100.....I Want The W.
Defense Leaders...Mike Edwards had 8 solo and 3 assists with 1 pass break up, West and Allen each had a forced fumble, Hoskins and Love recovered the fumbles, Josh Allen added a sack to for with his forced fumble! Pretty good defensive stat line and we won the turnover battle 2-1 and Defensive Special Teams blocked a kick. Again, I don't care if we win by 1 or win by 100....I Want The W!
It was good to see so many fans there last night. A rainy night but we had help from Keenland and Homecoming. We get. much needed bye week this week and and I hope we heal up a prepare for a solid 2nd half of the season and on to a big time bowl win.
Next game is October 21st at Mississippi State with a 4pm kickoff. This win will make us bowl eligible!
Next home game is October 28th against the Vols and it will be Rich Brooks Day. Should be a great day, lots of former players in attendance and a chance for us to put up another W on a struggling Tennessee team.
SHOW UP...WEAR BLUE...BE LOUD...SUPPORT THE TEAM!
