Coach Stoops met with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference. He sounded like he is ready to move on and put the game with Mississippi State behind them. He led off by saying "We did not play very good in any aspect of the game" Coach openly admitted that as a team they have to prepare better for game day. He knows he has to do a better job of setting the tone for the week. In response to a question about Benny Snell he stated that everyone knows that we have to run the ball more. "80% of SEC games are won when a team out rushes their opponent by 1 yard". Each phase of the offensive game plan compliments the other. A solid run game opens up the passing game and vise versa. The flow of the game this week did not give them the opportunity to run the ball as much as they wanted. When asked about the Tennessee he said we can not underestimate the Vols. They are a solid football team that has played teams we have played and played them very close. On the injury side of things he did update the media on Landon Young. He said he is listed day to day but is improving daily.
Coach Gran talked after practice today and he was very upbeat about the days practice. He said they had good energy and a positive practice. He mentioned the keys to rebounding after last week would be to focus on the techniques and fundamentals. The key is to focus on the detail and execute. He echoed Coach Stoops on his thoughts about Tennessee by saying that they are big, strong and physical upfront, have linebackers that are active and the Defensive Backs are active. When asked about guys being banged up and not doing the little things like focusing on the fundamentals he said that we play in the "Big Boy League" and if that s not what they want to do then they need to rethink their decision to play this game.
CJ Conrad spoke to the med as well after practice and said "I have to play better". He is not worried about his targets and said he is all about the team. He reminded us that UK is 2-1 in games he did not catch a pass. He said the Defenses are keying on him more often but at the end of the day he has to make plays.
The media also heard from QB Stephen Johnson.HE led off by saying that as a team they "don't want that feeling ever again" in response to a question about how they are taking the loss. He talked about how beneficial the film study was on Sunday and that he had several misreads that put the team in bad situations. He said that the game plan every week is perfect and they (the players) have to do what they have been coached and trained to do.
Tomorrow we will hear from the Defensive and both coaches on the SEC Teleconference.
