Stoops and Co received big news Sunday with an key commitment from Terry Wilson, Former Oregon QB and current JUCO. while this adds even more for the QB competition this offseason, it adds a lot of good in usual long and drawn QB battles at UK. Wilson brings a unique play style to an already unique cast going into the spring.
Even though Wilson only redshirted at Oregon, his JUCO numbers look the part of an excellent SEC quarterback. He was able to handle his business on the ground and in the air with relative ease. While being a dual threat, he is still a BIG threat in the air.
With the exception of a veteran Drew Barker, the QB competition next year will have a lot of young pups. Gunnar Hoak and Terry Wilson will both be sophomores and Danny Clark will be a redshirt freshman. If the coaching staff decided to go with a younger QB over the veteran Barker, then Stoops will have something he hasn't had since being at UK, a long tenured QB. Stephen Johnson and Patrick Towles were the two longest tenure as starters.
If the coaches decide to go with a younger quarterback, and if they decide to go with Terry Wilson, his play style will not only fit into Gran's offense but into the SEC as well. The writing on the wall seems to be Terry Wilson, but competition is a great thing. It produces a truly seasoned and thick-skinned competitor. BBN should be very excited about this QB competition in the Post-Johnson Era.
