The Cats Men’s and No. 15 Women’s Swimming & Diving teams returned to action after their winter break as they Took on No. 13 Ohio State and Toledo in Lexington, KY. The ladies defeated Toledo, but both the men and women lost to Ohio State.
Kentucky won 13 events on the day. “It was a really good meet,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “Ohio State was fantastic top to bottom, so I give them a lot of credit. They are well coached and did a great job. We came up a little bit short with both teams, but we definitely saw some positives. We have some things we need to improve on, and we’ll try to make some of those adjustments over the next five weeks heading into SECs, but this meet was great preparation for NCAAs in swimming back-to-back days. Very productive.”
Sophomore Asia Seidt won her second SEC Female Swimmer of the Week (First was November) of the season. Seidt had wins in all three of her individual events on Saturday. Her first victory came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.15, before touching first in the 100 backstroke at 53.34. An NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 1:58.34 in the 200 IM solidified her third win of the day.
The Wildcats are back in action on January 20 as they travel to Louisville for the annual Battle in the Bluegrass. The meet is set for a 1 p.m. ET start.
